Chadwick Boseman was an American actor who has a net worth of $12 million. He is mostly known for his roles as T’Challa in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, notably the lead in Black Panther.

Boseman was listed in the 2018 Time 100 for becoming the first black actor to play the lead role in an MCU movie. Early on, Boseman enjoyed success as a theatrical actor, writer, and director.

He embarked on his acting career by appearing in several TV shows and eventually landing roles in the biggest movies ever made. Unfortunately, Boseman passed away on August 28, 2020, at the age of 43, after a four-year fight with colon cancer.

Early Life

Aaron Boseman was born on November 29, 1976, and raised in Anderson, South Carolina to Carolyn, a nurse, and Leroy Boseman, who worked at a textile factory and managed an upholstery business.

Boseman trained in martial arts as a child and carried it out as an adult. He wanted to become an architect when he was a child. He grew up in the nearby town of Belton.

College Life

Boseman played basketball while attending T. L. Hanna High School. He graduated from high school in 1995. He turned down a college basketball scholarship to pursue the arts.

With a Bachelor of Fine Arts in directing, he left Howard University in 2000. His play Hieroglyphic Graffiti was inspired by his work at an African-American-focused bookstore while he was a student at Howard.

Boseman and his fellow classmates were accepted to the Oxford Summer Program of the British American Drama Academy at Balliol College, Oxford, England. He attended the program in 1988.

He learned to appreciate William Shakespeare’s playwriting as well as Samuel Beckett and Harold Pinter’s writing. While still in college, he made his first trip to the continent to work with his professor Mike Malone in Ghana.

He continued his film studies after his return to the country and received his diploma from the Digital Film Academy in New York City. After completing his studies, he moved to New York City to pursue a career in acting.

Career

Boseman started his theatre career after majoring in directing at Howard University. In addition to being nominated for a Jeff Award for his play Deep Azure in 2005, he had won a Drama League Directing Fellowship and an AUDELCO for acting.

As a series regular on the NBC drama Persons Unknown, he made his debut on the small screen (2010-2013). He kept playing historical personalities, appearing as James Brown in Get on Up (2014) and Thurgay Marshall in Marshall (2017).

From 2016 to 2019, Choseman portrayed the superhero Black Panther in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). He appeared in four MCU movies, including the 2018 film, for which he earned an NAACP Image and a Screen Actors Guild Award.

His other films credits include The Express: The Ernie Davis Story, The Kill Hole, Draft Day, Gods of Egypt, Da 5 Bloods, and Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom. He appeared and executive produced the films Message From The King, Marshall, and 21 Bridges.

Boseman has also directed short films including Blood Over a Broken Pawn and Heaven. Chadwick Boseman has also appeared in a few episodes of various TV series and shows.

He had also been nominated for an Academy Award once, 1 BAFTA Award,  4 Critics’ Choice Movie Awards, 1 Independent Spirit Award, and 5 Screen Actors Guild Awards, among others.

Personal Life

Boseman and singer Taylor Simone Ledward started dating in 2015; by 2019, they were engaged; and, they later wed secretly. In 2016, Boseman was diagnosed with stage IV colon cancer.

He avoided discussing his cancer diagnosis in the media. He continued to work on a number of movies during his treatment, including Marshall, Da 5 Bloods, Ma Rainey, and others.

Boseman passed away on August 28, 2020, at his home in Los Angeles. He left no will when he passed away, therefore California law applied to his estate. On September 4, 2020, a public funeral was held in Anderson, South Carolina.

A permanent art memorial’s construction was announced by the city. The death of Boseman was regarded as having the greatest impact in the 2020s. A mural honouring Chadwick Boseman was unveiled by Disney in 2020 at Downtown Disney.

The flags at the Statehouse were lowered to half-staff on August 30 at the request of South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster. In the introduction of Black Panther on Disney+, Marvel altered the logo animation to reflect his likeness.

Charity Work

Apart from acting, Boseman supported a number of charities, most notably St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and organizations that fund cancer research. In order to provide free tickets for kids who wanted to see Black Panther, he gave $10,000 to the Boys & Girls Club of Harlem. He gave hospitals fighting the COVID-19 outbreak in black neighbourhoods $4.2 million worth of personal protective equipment in 2020. As a result, he created his own Operation 42 challenge to inspire others to donate PPE.

House and Cars

Chadwick Boseman owned several residences in Los Angeles, California including jacuzzis, bars, and swimming pools, among other amenities. In 2016, Boseman bought a $1.75 million property using a fictitious name.

spanning 3,310 sq ft, the house has a big front yard that leads to a winding path that climbs to the main house. Other features include a wet bar, a modern kitchen, and a fireplace and balcony reminiscent of old Hollywood grandeur.
