BOISE, Idaho (CBS2) — Boise woke up Thursday morning to some of the worst air quality across the country.
The air quality index is expected to bounce between Orange and Red throughout Wednesday, with the worst of the smoky conditions in the morning. Fires burning in eastern Oregon, the Boulder Fire near Cascade, and a fast-growing fire near Ola are all contributing to the smoky conditions in the Valley.
There are red flag warnings across the Valley for outdoor burning and indoor wood heating. Check the Idaho DEQ website for the latest updates.
The Paddock Fire 20 miles north of Emmett has exploded to more than 118,000 acres over the last few days. The fire is blazing through grass and brush was started by lightning, and fire managers say there is no estimates for containment or control right now. Boise Firefighters have joined the fight in Cascade to aid wildland firefighters fighting the Boulder Fire.
The air quality index is likely to remain in Orange over the next several days. The Idaho DEQ recommends that people should limit time outdoors. The forecast suggests that temperatures will remain in the low to mid-90s through the coming weekend.
