BOISE, Idaho (KBOI) — Four-year-old Pitbull, Blanca, was swept away by the current of the raging Boise River.
Now her owner is using the dog's death and this memorial to warn people to keep their pets and children away from the flooded river.
“She was just the love of my life and now she’s gone so I just don’t want anyone to have to go through this,” Moon said.
Moon came home from work to find her two dogs missing.
She immediately called the Humane Society to find that one of her dogs has been swept away in the Boise River.
“She loved going to the river. She just didn’t know how dangerous it was,” Moon said.
A passerby on the Greenbelt was able to save one of Moon’s dogs, but Blanca had already been caught in the current.
“With the power of the river here, there was just no way that he could save her,” Moon said. “He tried his best but she went very quickly.”
Now Moon is using the tragedy to warn pet-owners to keep their dogs away from the river.
“Keep your dogs away from the river. It is not time to be walking your dogs even if they’re on a leash.”
She created a memorial on what she now calls ‘Blanca’s Bridge,’ for anyone to write a message to her beloved dog.
The memorial has Blanca’s old coat, leash, and favorite dog toy.
Moon didn’t see the accident happen, and says the memorial has helped giver her closure.
“I wasn’t able to say goodbye.”
