General Questions

Is It Still Fine?

Yes, the build is still fine. We are using three different spectres to make up for the loss of Divine Blessing. That means we now always anoint Death Attunement. Overall, the build has been slightly BUFFED compared to last league, even with the loss of the Blessing.

Which Items Do I Need to Start This Build?

You can start out as a hit-based Summon Raging Spirit build which requires zero gear investment and is a good choice as a league starter, which will then pivot into a hybrid poison version.

From there, to switch into the full poison version of SRS, there are a few core items:

  • United in Dream: The item that enables your Raging Spirits to poison thanks to the Level 25 Envy aura it provides, which grants a ton of Chaos Damage. Make sure you do not link any support gems (other than Generosity) that support Envy in this weapon, as that will increase its reservation cost.
  • Darkness Enthroned: This belt comes with two Abyssal Sockets and a unique property: (50-100)% increased Effect of Socketed Abyss Jewels (local to the belt). We use this to really amplify our damage, or cap our poison chance until we get better jewels.
  • Ghastly Eye Jewel: We use these to cap out our minions’ chance to poison. Since United in Dream already provides us with 60% chance to poison for free, we only need to make up 40%. Eventually, you want these mods on the Ghastly Eye jewels in your Darkness Enthroned: Minions deal (15-20)% increased Damage if you’ve used a Minion Skill Recently, Minions deal additional # to # Chaos Damage, and +# to Maximum Life socketed in the belt, with a fourth mod of your choosing. If you manage to get Minions have (10-15)% chance to Poison Enemies on Hit, congratulations, you have one disgusting jewel.

What Content Can This Build Do?

With enough investment, everything including Uber Pinnacle bosses. One caveat, and the only thing this build cannot do, is Legion encounters. The Minion AI cannot handle the Legion Stasis phase and doesn’t break out much of anything.

POB

Where Do I Find My Minions’ Chance to Poison?

Unfortunately, the game does not tell you that information, so we need to rely on good ol’ Path of Building. If you don’t have it, go grab it from the provided link. First thing you need to do is import your character. To do that, follow these steps:

  • Click on “Import/Export Build.
  • Under “Character Import”, type in your Account Name, then hit “Start”.
  • Choose the appropriate league and character, tick all the checkboxes and your character is imported into PoB.

Now to find out your minions’ chance to poison, follow these steps:

  • Click on the Calcs tab on the top left side of the screen.
  • Under “View Skill Details” in “Socket Group”, select your Summon Raging Spirit and click “Show Minion Stats”.
  • Look for the “Poison” box and make sure it says 100%. If you hover over the number besides “Chance to Poison” (above “Total increased”), you can see all your sources of poison chance.

How Do I Get 100% Chance to Poison?

I am glad you asked – let’s break out the calculator and throw some math at you.

We need to make up 40% chance to poison for our minions, since United in Dream already provides us with 60%. You have multiple ways of achieving this.

For starters, you can use 2 Ghastly Eye Jewel in your Darkness Enthroned that have an appropriate amount of Minions have (10-15)% chance to Poison Enemies on Hit. Since everyone has a different belt, you can reference this table to find your best way of getting there.

If your increased effect modifier doesn’t show up in the first column, please just refer to the one before. (Example: You have a belt with 69% increased effect of Abyss jewels, your breakpoints and effects are the same as the 67% increased effect, due to PoE rounding down).

Ideally though, you want to cap your poison chance with three jewels socketed in the tree that add up to 40%, so the belt is free for big damage jewels as mentioned above.

Why Is My DPS in Path of Building so Low?

First of all, import your character if you haven’t already. Then, follow these steps:

  • Go to the “Skills” tab.
  • Select the Summon Raging Spirit socket group.
  • On the right, select “Include in Full DPS” and set the count to 20.
  • In the six-link, make sure Multistrike is selected and Melee Splash is deselected.
  • Next, make sure all of your Auras are active.
  • In the “Configuration” tab, set up the following things:
    • General -> Check “Have your Minions been created Recently?” (only shows with Call to the Slaughter on your cluster jewel and allocated)
    • When in Combat -> Check “Have you used a Minion Skill Recently?” (only shows up if you have the respective mod on a jewel)
    • Skill Options -> Check “Is Feeding Frenzy Active?”
    • Skill Options -> Check “Enable buffs” and “Enable curses” under “Raise Spectre”
    • For Effective DPS -> Set “# of Withered Stacks” to 15
    • Enemy Stats -> Set “Is the enemy a Boss?” to “Guardian/Pinnacle Boss”
    • Custom Modifiers -> Add your Animate Guardian’s stats (make sure to use the correct wording!)
  • To add your spectres, go to Main Skill on the left and select the socket group that has your Raise Spectre gem, then click “Manage Spectres” and add your spectres from the list. Note that only one spectre can be active at a time, as such your numbers may vary a bit.

Why is the PoB a Seven-Link?

Multistrike/Melee Splash is a gem swap. While mapping, you use Melee Splash. For Pinnacle Bosses (Shaper, Elder, Maven, Eater of Worlds, Searing Exarch, Cortex), Forbidden Sanctum, Maven Invitations and the like, use Multistrike.

Build Set-Up

Gem Links

Here’s a breakdown of how your gem and link setup should look like: (- means linked, | means not linked)

6-link in The Covenant: Summon Raging SpiritUnleashUnbound AilmentsChance to Poison/Void Manipulation (once you are at 100% minion poison chance with the sword and jewels) – Multistrike/Melee SplashMinion Damage

Weapon: Generosity (this NEEDS to be in the weapon to support the Envy aura provided by United in Dream) | Frostblink OR Flame Dash | Shield Charge OR Whirling Blades.

Shield: Summon Stone GolemFeeding FrenzyMinion Life OR | Convocation

4-link 1: Tempest Shield | Determination | Vitality | Vaal Haste (do NOT use regular Haste – you won’t have the mana for it!)

4-link 2: Raise SpectreMinion LifeMeat ShieldAnimate Guardian

4-link 3: Arcanist BrandFlesh OfferingDespairDesecrate (Level 1)

Which Movement Skills Should I Use?

This comes down to personal preference. We use two types of movement skills in this build: for moving through the map quickly it’s either Shield Charge or Whirling Blades and for moving over gaps and terrain it’s either Frostblink or Flame Dash.

Why Does My Movement Skill Feel a Bit “Stuttery”?

Make sure you have enabled Always Attack Without Moving on your movement skills. Left-click on the skill and then make sure this box at the top of the skill list is activated.

Which Spectres Do We Use?

In 3.25, we are getting back corpses from the Affliction League! That means our spectre options have increased massively and more than make up for the loss of Divine Blessing. Corpses can now spawn as rewards in Ritual.

Important Note: At the time of writing this FAQ, we do not know yet if the corpses can be summoned by using Desecrate and Raise Spectre, as was previously possible with Pale Seraphim and Arena Master. During Affliction League, you HAD TO HAVE the corpses yourself to be able to raise them, meaning they could NOT be shared with other players. We will update as soon as we know more.

These spectres will be used:

  • (Perfect) Hulking Miscreation: Grants 100% increased Damage and 30% Attack and Cast Speed to Constructs – which Summon Raging Spirit count as. The Perfect version also grants nearby allies 20% of Physical Damage as Extra Lightning Damage.
  • Perfect Judgemental Spirit: Grants ally Skeletons a TON of flat added Fire and Chaos Damage – and SRS count as Skeletons! Also grants us Discipline for extra Energy Shield.
  • Perfect Forest Warrior: Grants nearby allies Onslaught. Has Culling Strike (which is relevant until you put a Kingmaker on your Animate Guardian).

Other options include:

  • Perfect Forest Tiger: Grants Haste
  • Perfect Naval Officer: Grants +10 Fortification and Precision
  • Perfect Warlord: Grants Endurance Charges and Vitality
  • Perfect Eldritch Eye/Perfect Frozen Cannibal/Perfect Fiery Cannibal: Grant Purity of Lightning/Ice/Fire respectively to use as an extra defensive measure against certain bosses

Which Items Go on My Animate Guardian (Affectionately Called “Bob”)?

There’s two irreplaceable core items he needs:

  • Boots: Windscream (for an additional curse)
  • Gloves: Asenath’s Gentle Touch (makes the Guardian apply Temporal Chains and grants an explosion effect)

The other three gear slots have multiple options:

HelmetChestWeapon
Geofri’s Crest (cheap,  resistances for the AG), possibly with a % life regen corruptionGruthkul’s Pelt (cheaper than the other two options, provides tankiness for your AG but less than Doppelgänger)Dying Breath (cheap, provides increased damage)
Leer Cast (cheap, gives 50% increased damage), possibly with a % life regen corruptionGarb of the Ephemeral (expensive, provides tankiness for you, extra options on Synthesis Implicits)Kingmaker (expensive, provides Fortify and Culling Strike)
Crown of the Tyrant (specifically with a WHITE socket for tons of extra flat chaos damage, expensive)Doppelgänger Guise (moderate price, provides tankiness for your AG)

How Do I Assemble My Animate Guardian?

Go into a combat zone (for example Blood Aqueducts in Act 9), throw all items on the ground from your inventory, hover over the gear pieces and press the button for Animate Guardian over each piece. Make sure your loot filter doesn’t hide any of the items. I recommend turning it off temporarily while summoning the Guardian.

DO NOT try to throw gear on the ground in your hideout or in town – a prompt will show up asking if you wish to delete the item, as gear cannot be on the ground in non-combat zones.

How Do I Keep My Animate Guardian Alive?

Only start using Animate Guardian at an appropriate Gem level – 19 should usually be fine. Take the Minion Defence Mastery for Minions Recover 5% of Life on Minion Death. Because you are constantly recasting Summon Raging Spirit, that counts as them dying and gives your other minions a good chunk of health back.

Do not run maps with Players have #% less Recovery of Life and Energy Shield. This mod extends to the Guardian and lowers his recovery, too!

Does the Order on the Arcanist Brand Matter?

Yes. Skills trigger in a certain order, basically following the links clockwise (meaning in a 4-link it goes top left to bottom left), which means your Arcanist Brand set-up should look like this:

This makes it so that Flesh Offering triggers first, keeping the attack speed for your minions up while mapping. Despair and Desecrate really only matter on bosses and nasty rares so we can lower their Chaos Resistance and spawn corpses to keep the Offering up.

Which Pantheon Powers Do I Use?

Brine King and Abberath.

Is the Build Ailment Immune?

The build is ailment immune in all but name with the right setup.

We get Freeze avoidance and reduced Chill effect from the aforementioned Brine King Pantheon. If your Animate Guardian wears Garb of the Ephemeral, you become immune to Chill and Freeze (well, ackshually your Movement and Action Speed cannot be reduced below base value, but – same difference) and you cannot take Critical Strikes from enemies, which also neutralises Brittle. That’s the cold ailments taken care of.

For Fire ailments, we reduce the duration of Ignites on us by 60% thanks to the Abberath Pantheon, and will also be unaffected by Burning Ground from it. Scorch lowers our Elemental Resistances by up to 30% for 4 seconds – this one is completely negligible.

As for Lightning ailments, Tempest Shield grants us Shock immunity. Sap makes you deal up to 20% less damage for 4 seconds – again, this is negligible.

And for Corrupting Blood, we can use the corresponding Protection Mastery until we can get immunity on a jewel corruption.

Which Map Mods (Below T17s) Should I Avoid?

There are two specifically that cannot be run: Players cannot regenerate Life, Mana or Energy Shield and Players have #% less Recovery of Life and Energy Shield.

A couple of other map mods can become a bit of an annoyance, namely Monsters have a 50% chance to avoid Poison, Impale, and Bleeding, #% reduced Chance To Block and Players have x% reduced effect of Non-Curse Auras from their skills – but they are doable. Maybe avoid having them all in one map, though.

For Tier 17 maps, please use your own best judgement.

Fantastic Abyss Jewels and How to Craft Them

This build relies on very good Ghastly Eye Jewels to unlock its full potential. If you are up to a foray into crafting, this section is for you! Do not spend exorbitant amounts of Divines on ready-made jewels. Make them yourself and get something to settle on for the time being!

To start, we need a base jewel with item level 60 or above, as that is the minimum item level required to roll Minions have (10-15)% chance to Poison Enemies on Hit. Start spamming Orbs of Alteration and Orbs of Augmentation until you hit it, which is about a 1:65 chance using this method. If you hit one of the following prefixes with an open suffix, you can use an Orb of Augmentation to look for the poison chance:

  • +# to maximum Life
  • Minions deal # to # additional Chaos Damage
  • Minions deal # to # additional Physical Damage (Physical Damage is only half as valuable as Chaos Damage)

Once you have the poison chance at a value you are happy with, you can use a Regal Orb to make it rare. At this step, you are looking for one of the following useful mods:

  • Any of the prefixes listed above
  • Minions deal (15-20)% increased Damage if you’ve used a Minion Skill Recently (Suffix)
  • Minions have (4–6)% increased Attack Speed/Minions have (4–6)% increased Cast Speed (Suffix, this is a hybrid mod)
  • Either one of Minions have #% chance to blind enemies on Hit, Minions have +# to Accuracy Rating (around 240, both Suffixes) – NOTE: You can use the Minion Offence Mastery for Minions have +250 Accuracy Rating and forgo this mod entirely

If you hit any of the modifiers mentioned, you can (and probably should) use an Exalted Orb to get a fourth mod. If not – back to the beginning.

Once your Minion Poison Chance IS capped, you no longer go for that modifier when crafting your Abyss Jewels.Instead, you craft for any of the other affixes mentioned. The “perfect” jewel would probably look something like this, assuming your poison chance and Minion accuracy is capped:

Please be aware that a jewel like this is incredibly difficult to craft and prohibitively expensive to buy. The order of importance for the mods after capping poison chance and accuracy is probably:

  • +# to maximum Life
  • Minions deal # to # additional Chaos Damage (yes, flat Chaos Damage IS that important)
  • Minions deal (15-20)% increased Damage if you’ve used a Minion Skill Recently
  • Minions have (4–6)% increased Attack Speed/Minions have (4–6)% increased Cast Speed
  • Remember that you can always sell off “failed” crafts if you are in a trade environment to partially refund your investment. Happy crafting!

    Upgrades

Which Item Slot Should I Upgrade First? Is There a Priority?

In terms of Uniques, the order of priority is as follows:

  • Darkness Enthroned
  • The Jinxed Juju
  • United in Dream
  • The Covenant (a 5-link Covenant beats out a 6-link rare by a good margin)
  • What About Aul’s Uprising?

If you wish to min-max the build to absolutely insane levels, then absolutely go for it. Otherwise, The Jinxed Juju is our best in slot amulet.

What Further Upgrades Can I Get?

Please refer to the min-maxed version of the Path of Building. Listing all options would be a bit outside the scope of this FAQ. The biggest single upgrade you can buy is probably Amanamu’s Gaze and a really, really good Minion Damage Cluster Jewel.

I hope the above information was helpful. Happy gaming!
