BOISE, Idaho (CBS2) — This week dozens of hot air balloons will be getting ready at Ann Morrison Park to soar over the Treasure Valley for the Spirit of Boise Balloon Classic.
Deputy Chief Tammany Brooks from the Boise Police Department said, "It is just one of the penultimate premier events of the city of Boise. It's one of the most photographed events in the state of Idaho."
Before the balloons are ready to take off, Boise officials ensure the event is ready to dazzle kids and families from across the valley.
Doug Holloway, the Director of Boise Parks and Recreation said, "Our team will make sure that those who come down here to enjoy the Spirit of Boise launches will have just a great experience at Ann Morrison Park." Chief Brooks said, "We like to provide security for the event to ensure everybody has a safe and fun time, and we also make sure that people can get in and out of the event as quickly and safely as possible."
Being a part of the classic is important to them because of what it brings to Boise.
Chief Brooks said, "Just interacting with each other, having a great time, and being a part of something that has been celebrated for over 30 years." Director Holloway said, "Having these kinds of free engaging community activities and events are really important in creating a vibrant community."
With warm weather in the forecast, the classic will be the perfect time for friends and families to enjoy Boise's outdoors.
Director Holloway said with limited parking it will be a great time to walk or bike on the Greenbelt to get to the park. He said, "It's really a great time to be in town and do that stay-cation over Labor Day weekend."
Balloons will be going up at 7 on Wednesday morning with tethered rides for kids, and pilots prepare their balloons every morning for you to come and watch. To see the full schedule for the Spirit of Boise, click HERE.
