In 1995, country singer Tracy Byrd released “The Keeper of the Stars” as the fourth and last single off his album No Ordinary Man. The song quickly climbed Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart, peaking at No. 2.
A year after its release, the Academy of Country Music named the romantic tune Song of The Year. It truly is one of the most cherished songs of Tracy Byrd.
A Man Madly In Love
Written by Dickey Lee, Danny Mayo, and Karen Staley, “The Keeper of the Stars” tells the story of a man who finally found the love of his life. But he knows it’s no coincidence! He reckons someone had a hand in it long before they ever knew. He fully knows a supreme being has brought them together.

Now, he’s a man madly in love who got everything he needs – he can’t help but express his gratitude to the mighty one above, who must have also been the keeper of the stars.
“I tip my hat to the keeper of the stars. He sure knew what he was doin’,” Byrd sings.
Throughout his career, Tracy Byrd re-recorded the touching song quite a few times. This includes a recording with one semitone lower compared to the album version, which Byrd did, thinking that he’d sing it better in a lower key. This recording was then released as the radio edit and was used in the song’s music video.

In 2001, Byrd re-recorded “The Keeper of the Stars” for his seventh studio album, Ten Rounds – which was then reprised on his 2005 Greatest Hits package.
