Zelda Tears of the Kingdom: How Long Was Link Asleep?

Posted by Abbie Anker on Sunday, August 4, 2024

In the first cutscene in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, Link gets separated from Zelda while exploring Hyrule castle and falls into a deep sleep.

Then, he wakes up and the game officially begins. However, since in Zelda: Breath of the Wild Link ended up sleeping for 100 years, players have been wondering if the same is true in Tears of the Kingdom.

Based on certain story elements, we can assume that Link was asleep only for a few weeks this time.

In this Zelda Tears of the Kingdom backstory guide, I will explain how long was Link asleep before starting the game.

How Long Was Link Asleep in Tears of the Kingdom?

When Link wakes up and makes it to Lookout Landing, the villagers are excited to see him alive and healthy.

While it isn’t mentioned how long Link was asleep, we know that he disappeared together with Zelda. The villagers now mention that there are currently active parties that are searching for Zelda.

Based on that, we can assume that not a long time has passed since Zelda’s disappearance and thus Link hasn’t been asleep for a long time.

If a year or more had passed, there wouldn’t be any search parties now.

Therefore, we can assume that Link has been asleep for a few weeks at most before the start of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.

Wrapping up

In conclusion, while there is no official data to confirm this, we can assume that Link has been asleep for a few weeks before starting his adventure in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.

The continent and NPCs haven’t aged much, and the search for Zelda is still going on, so a few weeks is a fairly safe bet.

Do you agree with this theory? Do you have any other evidence regarding Link’s sleep time? Feel free to share any ideas and theories you have in the comments below.
